Atlantic Veterinary Internal Medicine & Oncology (AVIMO)
For questions regarding outpatient ultrasound requests such as patient positioning or scheduling, please feel free to contact an AVIM&O team member at 410-828-0911, option 2. While we will do our best to accommodate your preferences, please note that same-day appointments may not always be possible due to the existing case volume and emergency cases.
We will reach out to the client to schedule once we have received the completed referral form along with all necessary medical records. These include the past year of medical history, recent laboratory results, radiographs, and any other relevant information. To allow for timely coordination, we kindly ask that this form be submitted at least 24 hours prior to your requested appointment date.
All imaging referrals require a physical exam performed within two weeks of the scan and documented veterinarian approval for sedation with torbugesic, midazolam, or alfaxalone in clinically stable patients. While sedation is not required for every patient, prior approval is necessary for all cases.
Please note: if a patient is determined to be triage level 2 or clinically unstable, the emergency veterinarian and ultrasound technician reserve the right to decline the outpatient scan. In such cases, the patient may be redirected to our emergency service for a full evaluation. Examples of unstable conditions include patients needing abdominocentesis prior to scanning, those who are minimally responsive, experiencing hemorrhage (e.g., HGE, hemoabdomen), bloat (GDV), or presenting with a fever.
Incomplete referral packets (e.g., missing blood work or medical records) will not be reviewed until all required information has been received.
