Endoscopy

Endoscopy, meaning “looking inside,” provides us with a non-invasive way to visually examine and biopsy using a specialized fiber optic camera called an endoscope.

By using both flexible and rigid endoscopes, we’re able to carefully examine a variety of organs, including the nose, throat, esophagus, stomach, colon, and bladder, among others. This technique often helps us avoid the need for exploratory surgery, whenever possible. Our endoscopes are equipped with advanced medical-grade cameras, providing us with clear, detailed images for the most accurate results. To ensure your pet’s comfort and safety, anesthesia is used in most of our endoscopic procedures.

When Should Endoscopy Be Considered for Your Pet?

There are several conditions that may call for an endoscopic exam, such as:

  • Chronic diarrhea

  • Chronic vomiting

  • Chronic cough

  • Epistaxis (nose bleeds)

  • Persistent sneezing or nasal discharge

  • Unexplained weight loss

  • Structural changes to the gastrointestinal tract

  • Inconclusive results from another diagnostic test (blood work, physical exam, etc.)
