Internal Medicine
What is a veterinary internist?
A veterinary internist is a veterinarian who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of complex, chronic, or systemic medical conditions in animals. Internists are skilled in utilizing advanced diagnostic tools like ultrasound, endoscopy, advanced imaging such as CT scans, and specialized bloodwork to identify underlying medical issues affecting internal body systems. We work closely with you, your primary veterinarians, and other specialists to manage conditions that require detailed investigation or long-term care, improving outcomes and quality of life for animals with complex medical needs.
We will start with a thorough medical review and physical exam, followed by a discussion of your pet’s current health status. Based on our findings and your goals, additional diagnostics and treatments may be recommended. Your internist will work closely with other specialists on your pet's care team, such as veterinary surgeons, neurologists, oncologists, cardiologists, and dentists, to ensure your pet receives comprehensive, well-coordinated care.
