Dr. Alyse Zacuto

Dr. Zacuto’s passion for animals and science began at an early age—by the time she was six, she had set her heart on becoming a veterinarian. She earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from UC Davis in 2012, followed by advanced training through a rotating internship at the University of Minnesota. She then completed a three-year Internal Medicine Residency at UC Davis. After several years of practice on the West Coast, Dr. Zacuto and her family embraced a new adventure in Maryland. Dr. Zacuto’s clinical research and experience have fostered a special interest in liver disease and gastrointestinal disorders, including chronic hepatitis and copper storage disease, gastroesophageal reflux, esophageal strictures, and inflammatory bowel disease. She is dedicated to advancing care in these areas to improve the health and well-being of her patients.

The most rewarding part of Dr. Zacuto’s work is helping pets with complex and chronic illnesses while supporting the people who love them. She is deeply committed to educating pet owners, ensuring they fully understand their pet’s condition. By providing clear, compassionate guidance, she empowers families to take an active role in their pet’s care, working together with their veterinary team to manage and monitor their health at home. As a veterinarian, Dr. Zacuto prioritizes education, open communication, and empathy throughout her practice.

As the Medical Director of AVIM&O Annapolis, she is committed to medical excellence, professional development, and fostering a culture of learning for staff, technicians, and doctors.

Outside of work, Dr. Zacuto enjoys time with her family and her two dogs—Graham, a black Labrador, and Floyd, a Terrier mix—as well as surfing, boxing, and sailing on the Chesapeake Bay.
